Wanted: AASV Student Chapter Photos

Please send photos of your AASV student chapter for inclusion in the slide presentation for the AASV Awards Reception at the annual meeting in Orlando. Looking for photo ideas: students gathered for an AASV club meeting or activity during the 2006-2007 academic year, or photos of your group from the 2006 annual meeting.

One week remains to pre-register for AASV Annual Meeting

Friday, February 9 is the last day to receive the most favorable registration rate for the AASV Annual Meeting. Veterinary students who plan to attend the meeting must be registered by the 9th if they wish to receive the $100 travel stipend sponsored by the AASV Foundation and Newport Laboratories. The meeting is scheduled for March 3-6, 2007 in Orlando, Florida. Online registration is available here. For more information regarding the meeting see http://www.aasv.org/annmtg.

Ice hockey in Florida, anyone?

If you would be interested in taking time out to play a friendly game of ice hockey with your colleagues during the AASV annual meeting in Orlando, send an email message to Dr. Luc Dufresne by February 16. Indicate your position and the level (A,B,C) you play (or used to play). The ice is reserved for Sunday evening, March 4.

Dr. Dick Hesse is now Director of Diagnostic Virology at Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in Manattan, Kan. He was formerly employed by Intervet. People on the Move: Dr. Don Levis

The University of Nebraska has reassigned Dr. Don Levis to a Professor of Animal Science and Extension Swine Specialist position located at the University of Nebraska Haskell Agricultural Laboratory near Concord, Neb. He will be conducting research on growing-finishing pigs and educational programs related to swine reproduction, alternative pork production systems, and housing and management of growing-finishing pigs. During the previous two years, Dr. Levis was working as a UNL Extension Educator for Saunders County and surrounding region on educational projects related primarily to cow-calf management and 4-H youth development. He is pleased to be back spending 100% of his time working on state, regional and national swine related research and educational projects. AASV District Director elections underway

Elections are underway for the AASV District Director positions in districts 3, 6, and 8. Ballots have been mailed to the voting members in each district. In district 3 (Arkansas, Missouri, and Kentucky), Dr. Tom Fangman was unanimously nominated for the position and is the sole candidate on the ballot. Dr. Ron Brodersen was also nominated unanimously in district 8 (Nebraska and South Dakota). In district 6 (Iowa), the two candidates for director are Drs. Kent Schwartz and Pat Halbur, both of Ames, Iowa. Ballots must be returned to the AASV by February 23, 2007. The election results will be announced at the AASV Annual Meeting in Orlando.
