Position Announcement: Production Veterinarian

Premium Standard Farms is seeking a Production Veterinarian for our farms operation based in Princeton, Missouri. The Production Veterinarian is responsible for monitoring herd health, identifying clinical signs of disease and creating and implementing appropriate herd health strategies. This individual is also responsible for developing and auditing biosecurity practices and procedures and coordinating farm staff to achieve goals of maintenance of herd health. USDA Changes Disease Status of the Brazilian State of Santa Catarina with Regard to Certain Ruminant and Swine Diseases

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is amending its regulations governing the importation of certain animals and animal products by adding the Brazilian State of Santa Catarina to the list of regions we recognize as free of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), rinderpest, swine vesicular disease (SVD), classical swine fever (CSF) and African swine fever (ASF). APHIS is also adding Santa Catarina to the list of regions that are subject to certain import restrictions on meat and meat products because of their proximity to or trading relationships with rinderpest- or FMD-affected countries.

Iowa Pork Industry Center to Offer PQA Plus® Advisor Recertification Session

People who become certified as Pork Quality Assurance (PQA) Plus® Advisors under the National Pork Board’s PQA Plus® program are required to recertify every three years. That means those certified during the initial training period in 2007 need to complete a recertification training and testing session in 2010. The Iowa Pork Industry Center (IPIC) at Iowa State University (ISU) has scheduled a recertification session for Dec. 9 in Ames.
