Attention AASV ice hockey players!

Are you planning to attend the AASV annual meeting in Kansas City? Would you be interested in participating in a friendly ice hockey competition with your peers on the afternoon of Saturday, March 4? If so, please send a message to Luc Dufresne at luc_dufresne@seaboardfoods.com before January 8, 2006. Indicate your position and the level you play or used to play (A,B,C). If there is enough interest, we will organize a game at a nearby arena.

Upcoming Conference: Successful Niche Pork Herd Health

A workshop on Successful Niche Pork Herd Health and Production Management will be part of the Practical Farmers of Iowa 2006 annual conference, to be held in Des Moines on January 13 and 14. AASV member Dr. Kurt Van Hulzen and ISU Extension Swine Field Specialist Dave Stender will present the workshop on Friday, January 13, from 12:30 – 4:30 pm at the Des Moines Airport Holiday Inn.

AASV to meet at Westin Crown Center, not Harbour Castle

An error appears in the AASV annual meeting brochure mailed recently to members along with the 2006 membership renewal notices. The brochure incorrectly lists the meeting hotel as the “Westin Harbour Castle,” which was the location of last year’s meeting in Toronto. The correct hotel is the “Westin Crown Center” located in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The hotel address and telephone numbers provided in the brochure are correct; only the name of the hotel has been mislabeled. Now is a good time to go ahead and make your reservation, as space is limited. The complete (correct!) hotel information is available at http://www.aasv.org/annmtg/2006/lodging.htm, including an option to reserve your room online. Registration materials for the meeting will be mailed to members in late December.

To date, IDALS has conducted 6 sessions across Iowa and additional sessions are planned for spring and summer of 2006. Additional information can be obtained at the IDALS website http://hls.extension.iastate.edu/calendar/ or by calling 515/281-6657.
