NPPC Cancels 2020 World Pork Expo

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) today announced that its board of directors has decided to cancel the 2020 World Pork Expo in June due to COVID-19 human health concerns. World Pork Expo 2021 is scheduled for June 9-11 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. [Source: NPPC 30 March 2020]

Food animal veterinarians in the United States safeguard livestock, poultry, and aquatic food animal health and welfare as well as food safety and quality along the entire “farm to fork” continuum. In doing so they help to ensure the financial sustainability of producers and global food security. Of particular importance is the role veterinarians play in preparation for and mitigation of emerging or transboundary (foreign animal) disease outbreaks which could have serious economic impacts on the entire U.S. economy as well as possible public health concerns regarding zoonosis and food security.

Hemorrhagic tracheitis syndrome has been progressing east to west across Canada for a period of years and has now reached the US. Practitioners and diagnosticians in Canada and the US will provide insight into the syndrome’s progression during a webinar sponsored by the Swine Health Information Center (SHIC) and American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV). Scheduled for Thursday, April 2, 2020, from 10:00 to 11:30 am CT, the webinar will provide information on the syndrome, its signalments, tissues for postmortem assessment, and management.
