Alltech Invites AASV Members to Luncheon at Annual Meeting

Here’s something new for the AASV Annual Meeting this year: Alltech is sponsoring a luncheon for AASV members on Sunday, March 8. The luncheon will take place in the Dallas Ballroom C & D from 11:30 – 1:30 pm. Alltech’s VP, Aidan Connolly, will be discussing how to “choose responsibly” when faced with bacterial challenges. “First Annual “”Passion for Pigs”” Seminar and Trade Show offers 6 hours CE”

The first annual “Passion for Pigs” seminar and trade show will challenge you and your clients to improve in the areas of health, production, team-building and financial decisions. AND, it provides six hours of veterinary continuing education credit. Sponsored by Northeast Veterinary Service (Dr. Stephen Patterson), the conference is scheduled for Wednesday, March 4 at the Stoney Creek Inn in Columbia, Missouri. The one-day program features presentations by Drs. Larry Firkins, Scott Dee, Chris Kuster, and Dennis DiPietre, in addition to a trade show and industry-sponsored presentations. AASV and National Pork Board Revise Swine Euthanasia Guidelines

The AASV and National Pork Board recently reviewed and revised the document, On-Farm Euthanasia of Swine – Recommendations for the Producer. The new 20-page booklet is designed to help producers make appropriate decisions regarding euthanasia of swine. It highlights methods of euthanasia recommended for different sizes of pigs, and outlines the factors to be considered when selecting a method for use.

Chinese Authorities Move to Stop Blue Ear Pig Disease Outbreak

Local authorities are moving quickly to try to contain an outbreak of costly blue ear pig disease in north China, according to Chinese news agency Xinhua. Officials have quarantined 10 villages where infected pigs were found and so far culled 936 infected pigs. Vaccine for 165,000 pigs have been sent to Hongtong, along with 430 exposure suits, 4.1 metric tons of disinfectant and 610 syringes for injections.
