The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has determined that based on currently available data and information, the consumption of pork, poultry, eggs, and domestic fish products from animals inadvertently fed animal feed contaminated with melamine and melamine-related compounds is very unlikely to pose a human health risk.

Reminder: AASV to Hold Session at World Pork Expo
The AASV will conduct a “closed door” session on Thursday June 7th noon – 5:00pm in the Tourism Building on the Iowa State Fairgrounds during the World Pork Expo. This is the fourth year AASV has conducted this members-only session to discuss issues affecting animal health in the swine industry. PRRS Risk Assessment Tool Training offered at WPX
Another opportunity is being offered for AASV members interested in receiving training on the AASV’s PRRS Risk Assessment Tool. The training will take place on Thursday, June 7th, from 8:00am to 12:00 noon in the Varied Industries Building at the World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa. Successful completion of a training session is required to obtain a copy of the Risk Assessment Tool.

Obituary: Dr. John B. Herrick
Dr. John B. Herrick, who chaired the 1969 meeting that resulted in the original formation of the American Association of Swine Practitioners (now AASV), passed away in Scottsdale, Ariz., on May 17. A full obituary is available here.
