National Pork Board Offers $46K for Top Innovators in Challenge
With foreign animal disease such as African swine fever closer than ever to the United States, the National Pork Board has launched its first-ever innovation challenge that deals with the potential need of mass carcass disposal. The challenge is seeking new and innovative methods of pig mortality disposal that go beyond the existing methods of burial, incineration, composting and landfills and provide pig farmers with more options.
AVMA fly-in to focus on rural veterinarian shortage, dog importation
On April 27, 200 veterinary professionals will meet with senators, representatives and their staff to highlight the importance of legislation that will help increase access to veterinary services in rural areas and reduce the spread of diseases that pose a threat to animal and public health.

SHIC-Led Research Builds Foundation of Knowledge for Pathogen Risk in Feed
From its inception in 2015, the Pork Checkoff-funded Swine Health Information Center (SHIC) has been a leader in enabling research priorities to identify the risk and mitigation of feed ingredients as a route for introduction and transmission of swine diseases. Since 2016, SHIC has invested Checkoff-sourced resources in 20+ projects to conduct research geared at protecting the US swine herd from the risk of future disease threats through the route of feed and feed ingredients.
