Have you ever considered serving the AASV in a governing role? Nominations for the office of AASV District Director are being sought in four AASV districts. Nomination cards will soon be mailed to all eligible voters in districts 2 (Southeastern US), 5 (Illinois and Wisconsin), 9 (Minnesota and North Dakota), and 11 (Canada). Nominations must be received by mail in the AASV office by January 20.

Iron Injection in Piglets and its Effect on Infections
Researchers at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences studied the route of iron supplementation to piglets and its effects on hemoglobin, piglet growth and infectious diseases. They found that there were significantly more treatments for joint infections in pigs receiving an early iron injection than in the littermates receiving a late injection.

AASV Annual Meeting: Online Registration Now Open
Online registration is now open for the AASV 2011 Annual Meeting. Registration materials are also being mailed to all current AASV members and student members. Meeting registration fees and policies remain the same as last year. Members have until February 11 to register at the reduced pre-registration rate. AASV Foundation Issues Call for Research Proposals
As part of its planned annual schedule, the American Association of Swine Veterinarians Foundation seeks research proposals for funding in 2011. Proposals are due February 1, 2011, and may request a maximum of $6000 per project. The selection and announcement of projects for funding will take place in March.
Swine Veterinarians Invited to Apply for Hogg Scholarship
The American Association of Swine Veterinarians Foundation is pleased to offer the Hogg Scholarship, established to honor the memory of longtime AASV member and swine industry leader Dr. Alex Hogg. Applications for the $10,000 scholarship will be accepted until February 1, 2011, and the scholarship recipient will be announced on March 6 during the Foundation Luncheon at the AASV 2011 Annual Meeting in Phoenix.
