Position Announcement: Health Assurance Sr. Veterinarian

The PIC Health Assurance Veterinarian is responsible for the implementation and communication of the PIC Health Assurance Program, including overseeing the health monitoring program, protecting the health status of production farms through oversight of biosecurity and health risk management, and improving the health of PIC herds through disease elimination programs, which enables successful delivery and utilization of superior healthy genetics to customers. This role also provides health services and solutions to support key customers.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with local Health Team Veterinarian to implement the Health Assurance Program that protects PIC supply chain and our customers’ herds:
  • Monitor the health and surveillance program for specific PIC’s owned and contract multiplication flows.
  • Provide health status information concerning product sources to customers in a timely manner.
  • Develop and execute herd health improvement and health clean-up projects.
  • Perform risk assessments of the PIC multiplication flows and support risk mitigation strategy implementation.
  • Support PIC supply chain farms through participation and leadership in strategic account team projects and initiatives.
  • Work with PIC genetic, technical, service teams and customers to assure successful animal health strategies for animal introduction and utilization. Lead specific cross-functional teams in addressing the needs of customers.
  • Support research that advances our supply, customers and the swine industry by working with and leading cross disciplinary projects.
  • Advance industry herd health through presentation of research results, participation in industry events and professional committees, and networking with producers, veterinarians, researchers, and government contacts.

Qualifications

  • Degree of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited veterinary college
  • Licensure in relevant states
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in swine medicine and production.
  • Ability to influence all levels of production systems (owners, senior managers, production managers, technicians, nutritionists, veterinarians).
  • Demonstrated competence in evaluating pig production systems and developing intervention strategies to improve herd health.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Experience analyzing technical information, including excellent technical writing and presentation skills, to effectively communicate in an organized and concise manner.
  • Ability to work autonomously, collaborate across teams and functional areas and lead cross- disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work in and maintain performance expectations of own self and others in diverse cultural contexts and fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications, including information technology tools for analysis and communication of health and production related data.
  • Ability to travel approximately 35%
