NPPC Veterinary Student Externship

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) has a veterinary government relations externship opportunity for six (6), 4th-year veterinary students for 2022. The externships are two weeks in length and take place in Washington, D.C. (unless noted otherwise). The goal of the program is to expose students to the pivotal role of veterinarians in public policy, advocacy, legislation, and regulation at the national level.

As an extern, you will interact with a number of organizations that advocate on behalf of animal agriculture and veterinary medicine during their externship.

Externs can also select to participate in NPPC’s Legislative Action Conference (LAC) during which they will be able to listen to a variety of speakers, interact with producers and veterinarians, and conduct visits to their Congressional delegation. In 2022, the Spring LAC rotation dates will be April 4 – April 15 and the Fall LAC rotation dates will be September 12-23.

Through a sponsorship from Merck Animal Health, a stipend of $2000 is available to cover travel and lodging expenses, for each student selected as an NPPC veterinary government relations extern.

Interested students should complete application materials which can be found here: https://bit.ly/3I515Ry, to Dr. Marie Bucko via email at BuckoM@NPPC.org by December 20th, 2021.
