Tips to Make the Most out of the Virtual AASV Annual Meeting

The virtual AASV Annual meeting is right around the corner, and we are so excited to share this experience with you! Expect excellent swine medicine CE, unique opportunities that could only happen in the virtual space, fun student activities, and breaks that teach you how to truly take a break! Ahead of the meeting, we’ve collected some tips on how to make the most out of the meeting in this virtual setting:

Before the Annual Meeting

  1. Get organized. Look at the meeting schedule, select sessions in advance, and note which presentations you’d like to see on-demand until April 30.
  2. Dedicate and prioritize time for learning and participating and minimize distractions. Put on some real pants, be present in the moment, and avoid multitasking – just like an in-person meeting. Find a quiet place, block off time in your calendar, and consider setting an “out of office” e-mail message or “do not disturb” sign on your door.
  3. Familiarize yourself with the meeting platform. Those who are registered will receive an invitation a few days before the meeting begins. Take a look around, watch the welcome video, and get to know the meeting space.
  4. Build your profile. Show everyone who you are! Add a photo and describe yourself.
  5. Keep an open mind. We’d all love to be somewhere warm, in person, shaking hands and enjoying each other’s company. That can’t be replicated, but that doesn’t mean this virtual meeting won’t be fantastic! The AASV Annual Meeting will look a little different, but speakers, organizers, session chairs, and the program planning committee have all worked hard to deliver the best virtual meeting AASV has ever had!

During the Annual Meeting

  1. Be an active participant and intentionally interact. Introduce yourself in the chat, ask the speakers questions, say hi to friends, welcome someone new, connect with students, and congratulate award recipients. Attendee interaction is what makes both live and virtual meetings successful.
  2. Meet new people. Browse the speaker and attendee directory to find people with common interests.
  3. Visit, interact, and earn swag by visiting the tech tables. Watch videos, download resources, chat, and schedule 1:1 meetings with exhibitors.
  4. Take breaks. Get up, move around, stretch, grab a healthy snack, and participate in the break activities.

After the Annual Meeting

  1. Take advantage of the recorded sessions until April 30. Catch sessions you missed. Debrief with fellow attendees. Reach out to speakers. Congratulate awardees.

Most importantly, HAVE FUN!
