Position Announcement: Associate Director, Health

The Maschhoffs seeks an Associate Director of Health, based in Carlyle, Illinois. The Associate Director of Health serves as a liaison to operating divisions throughout The Maschhoffs’ Pork business and assists the Director of Health or Regional Leadership with implementation of the annual Health Operations Plan. The role collaborates with The Maschhoffs’ regional and consulting veterinarians to provide fiscally and socially responsible strategies for managing the health of the animals. The position provides leadership in training and developing production personnel, innovation to production practices, and stewardship of the company’s animals and other resources including the image of The Maschhoffs, LLC. Typical duties of an Associate Director, Health include:

  • Work with a team of regional and consulting veterinarians to develop and implement an annual operating plan.
  • Review, advise, and work collaboratively throughout the business to implement biosecurity practices.
  • Responsible for overseeing a system that coordinates routine herd health activities including diagnostic monitoring, herd visit schedules, report management, and protocol distribution and updating.
  • Collaborate with production management to develop animal treatment, processing, and vaccination protocols on the basis of sound scientific Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Provide training on health and production protocols to a broad spectrum of production and management personnel.
  • Assist in development and implementation of practices and programs that support the business’s animal welfare policy and promote societal acceptance.
  • Assist in administering health and animal care training and regulatory and certification programs while ensuring best management practices are consistent with all applicable industry, governmental and customer standards.
  • Assist in the development of animal health budgets, with continued monitoring of financial impact on a regional basis.
  • Assist regional and consulting veterinarians to analyze root causes of health issues, identify effective countermeasures, and execute plans to restore good health.

Qualifications

Education

Preferred: Doctorate or better.

Experience

Preferred: 5 years of related veterinary and swine management experience
