Nominations sought for AASV District Directors

Nominations for the office of AASV District Director are currently being solicited in several AASV districts. Nomination cards have been mailed to all eligible voters in districts 1 (northeastern US), 4 (Indiana & Michigan), and the new district 7 (south central and southwestern US). At the fall Board of Directors meeting, the current districts 7 (KS, OK, TX) and 10 (southwestern US) were merged into a single district, which will be the new district 7. Members from the current districts 7 and 10 will have the opportunity to elect the director of the new, larger district. Nominations must be returned to the AASV office by January 23.

Potential candidates must be Active AASV members residing in the district to be represented. Affiliate, Associate, and Student members are not eligible to hold office or vote. In each district, the two nominees receiving the highest number of nominations will be placed on the ballot, subject to their consent to serve.

In districts 1 and 4, the current directors – Dr. Bill Minton (district 1), and Dr. John Baker (district 4) – have each completed one three year term as director and are eligible for nomination to a second term. In district 7, members will elect a new representative for the combined district. The current district 10 director Dr. Don Davidson has served two terms and is not eligible for re-election, and Dr. Scanlon Daniels, current district 7 director, is seeking election to the position of AASV Vice President and has opted to forego a possible second term as director.

The AASV district directors (now eleven in all), along with the officers, form the governing board of the AASV. The Board of Directors meets twice annually to set policies and conduct association business, once in conjunction with the AASV annual meeting in March, and again in October. Occasionally, the Board conducts additional conference calls or e-mail discussions. For more information, contact the AASV office (Tel: 515-465-5255, E-mail: aasv@aasv.org).
