Position Announcement: Swine Veterinary Extension Specialist

The University of Missouri is seeking a Swine Veterinary Extension Specialist to work on the Commercial Agriculture Swine Focus Team. The Swine Focus Team is an interdisciplinary group of economists, engineers, nutritionists, geneticists and veterinary medicine swine specialists who conduct applied research and develop and deliver advanced educational programs and seminars. The team also provides on-site consultation to the commercial swine industry and associated agri-businesses. As the veterinary medicine component of the team, this person will be responsible for developing state-wide programs related to swine health and reproduction. Attention should be directed toward programs that focus on the adoption of new technology, quality assurance and economic viability.

The successful candidate will be a member of the University of Missouri Extension Commercial Agriculture program, which is funded by the state as part of the university base budget, and occupy a clinical track Extension position on the faculty of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and Continuing Education in Columbia, Missouri. He or she will be responsible through the Director of Extension Veterinary Medicine and Continuing Education, to the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and to the Director of the Commercial Agriculture Program.

The successful candidate must have a DVM degree or equivalent, experience in swine medicine, knowledge of swine production and health methods and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience with swine production through private, academic, or corporate practice is required. Board certification in a clinical specialty and/or advanced degrees are desirable.
