Nominations for the office of AASV District Director are currently being solicited in four AASV districts. Nomination cards have been mailed to all eligible voters in districts 2 (Southeastern US), 5 (Illinois and Wisconsin), 9 (Minnesota and North Dakota) and 11 (Canada). Nominations must be returned to the AASV office by January 18.
Potential candidates must be Active AASV members residing in the district to be represented. Affiliate, Associate, and Student members are not eligible to hold office or vote. In each district, the two nominees receiving the highest number of nominations will be placed on the ballot, subject to their consent to serve. In districts 2 and 11, the current directors – Dr. Randy Jones (district 2), and Dr. S. Ernest Sanford (district 11) – have each completed one three year term as director and are eligible for nomination to a second term. District 5 director Dr. Jim Lowe has served two terms and is not eligible for re-election. Dr. Paul Ruen, current director in district 9, is seeking election to the position of AASV Vice President and has therefore opted to forego a possible second term as district director.
The AASV district directors (twelve in all), along with the officers, form the governing board of the AASV. The Board of Directors meets twice annually to set policies and conduct association business, once in conjunction with the AASV annual meeting in March, and again in October.
