Position Announcement: Assistant Professor, Molecular Reproductive Physiology

POSITION: The Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month, full-time faculty position in Molecular Reproductive Physiology (Assistant Professor). The appointment will be a research (65%) and teaching (35%) joint appointment between the Department of Animal Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine in the College of Veterinary Medicine, with Animal Science as the home department. This is one of two open positions in Animal Physiology within the Department of Animal Science.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The position responsibilities include development and leadership of a nationally and internationally recognized program in basic animal, cell, and molecular reproductive physiology that secures significant federal extramural funding (eg., USDA/NSF/NIH), and teaching physiology at the graduate level. There is an expectation of collaboration and/or research support for clinicians and researchers in both departments. Outreach to Iowa stakeholders is expected in the area of expertise of the successful applicant. Research programs should be relevant to swine reproduction but may involve biomedical or non-traditional models, in addition to livestock species. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a research program that builds on the two departments’ strengths in basic reproductive physiology and clinical application. Many opportunities exist to further expand existing collaborative efforts within and between the Departments, on the ISU campus, and with the USDA National Animal Disease Center, all of which foster cross-disciplinary research. The successful applicant will have access to several vigorous interdepartmental graduate programs, including Bioinformatics & Computational Biology; Genetics; Immunobiology; Microbiology; Veterinary Preventative Medicine; Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology; Neuroscience; Nutritional Sciences; and Toxicology. Teaching will include vertebrate physiology instruction at the graduate level.

RANK AND SALARY: Assistant Professor. Salary is commensurate with qualifications.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in reproductive physiology or related area. Excellent communication skills, and documented research productivity are required. Postdoctoral research and teaching experience are preferred. The ability to collaborate with faculty in complementary fields and interact with relevant components of Iowa animal industries is preferred.

FACILITIES: University core facilities in support of physiology research include 27 distinct service facilities for research in biotechnology at the molecular, cellular, tissue and organismal levels. Excellent teaching and research facilities to support faculty programs, including metabolism rooms, animal research rooms, small and large animal surgical facilities, and well-equipped laboratories and classrooms are available.
