AASV Honors Awardees at Annual Meeting

The American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV) honored six members for their contributions to the association and the swine industry. Dr. Jeff Harker, 2020 AASV president and 2024 Awards Selection Committee chair, introduced the recipients during the February 26, 2024, awards reception at the 55th AASV Annual Meeting, held in Nashville, Tennessee.

AASV Foundation Awards More than $100,000 for Research

As part of its mission to fund research with direct application to the profession, the American Association of Swine Veterinarians Foundation awarded more than $100,000 in funding for research. Dr. Ross Kiehne, chair of the AASV Foundation, announced the selection of 4 research proposals for funding during the AASV and AASV Foundation cosponsored luncheon on February 26 held during the AASV Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee. The foundation granted funds to support efforts by principal researchers from the University of Minnesota and Iowa State University.

AASV Installs 2024 Officers

Dr. Angela Baysinger was installed as president of the American Association of Swine Veterinarians on February 27, 2024, during the association’s 55th Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee. She succeeds Dr. William Hollis, who is now immediate past president. Dr. Locke Karriker has ascended to president-elect. The newly elected vice president is Dr. Rebecca Robbins.

Seaboard Foods of Iowa has an exciting Swine Production Veterinarian opportunity in our Ames, Iowa office. In this highly impactful role, you will be a key member of the Vet Services team. The Swine Production Veterinarian is responsible for the verification of the health of Seaboard Foods swine herds through direct interaction with company producers and contract growers, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and production practices. Handles health-related farm issues and communicates issues to the appropriate department head. Works directly with the production management team and veterinary services team with diagnostic work, planning health programs, monitoring health, developing systems, maintaining biosecurity programs, medication use, and involvement with governmental regulatory concerns.

SHIC/AASV Porcine Circovirus-Focused Webinar Provides Timely Updates

On February 6, 2024, the Swine Health Information Center along with the American Association of Swine Veterinarians offered a webinar focused on emerging trends of porcine circovirus. Expert presenters provided the latest information on porcine circovirus including domestic and global distribution, new research updates, diagnostic trends, sample types submitted for surveillance, interpretation of test results, and practitioner perspectives for disease management strategies.
