Position Announcement: Health Assurance Veterinarian

PIC seeks a swine veterinarian to be responsible for the improvement and implementation of the Health Assurance Program in North America to enable the sustainable delivery of superior healthy genetic merit to customers. He or she will also provide health services and solutions to support the efforts of the Sales team with key customers. The position reports to the Director of Health for the Americas and its location is negotiable.

Position Announcement: Swine Veterinarian

Tyson Foods Inc, the world’s largest protein producer and the second-largest food production company in the Fortune 500, is looking for a Veterinarian to join our Pork Group Technical Services team. This position is primarily responsible for direct interaction with company producers and the verification of swine herd health ensuring adherence to standard operating guidelines and production practices. The Veterinarian will handle health-related farm issues and will communicate these issues to the appropriate department heads.

USDA Seeking Information from Foot and Mouth Disease Vaccine Manufacturers

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) today published a sources sought notice regarding foot and mouth disease (FMD) vaccine, as part of its FMD preparedness activities. APHIS has held extensive conversations with livestock producers and related industries while developing our FMD preparedness plans. During these discussions, everyone involved recognized there is an increased need for a steady vaccine supply to combat this devastating disease should it enter the country.

Swine Health Information Center’s Website Features New Look and Feel and Updated Organization for Your Ease of Use

Be sure to check out the Swine Health Information Center’s recently updated website (http://www.swinehealth.org)! Travel to the site has increased by over 3920% over the past month and majority of traffic was from mobile devices. The updated site offers optimized viewing from all outputs but especially mobile devices to better accommodate this traffic type. Of interest to swine veterinarians is that all 2015 research can be easily viewed and downloaded from the Research Results section of the site (http://www.swinehealth.org/results/). Research results cover topics ranging from an expedited look into the prevalence of Senecavirus A in the U.S. to an evaluation of disinfectants against Seneca Valley Virus, and much more. FDA Announces Grant Award Opportunity for Antimicrobial Use and Resistance Data Collection

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to support the collection of data on antimicrobial use in animal agriculture. The funded data collection efforts are intended to provide part of the baseline information on antimicrobial use practices in the four major food-producing animal groups (cattle, swine, chickens, and turkeys) needed to assess the impact of the agency’s judicious use strategy. The data collection efforts are also expected to provide important information on data collection methodologies to help optimize long-term strategies for collecting and reporting such data.
