Input Sought on Swine Care Handbook

The Swine Care Handbook from the National Pork Board is a science-driven summary of swine care and husbandry practices. It serves as a resource for the industry’s certification programs and education materials, on-farm standard operating procedures and for industry positions on animal care and well-being. For the next two months, the producer association is seeking your feedback on the draft content of the revised handbook.

Position Announcement: Pillen Family Farms Veterinarian

Pillen Family Farms is a family-owned, farrow to finish company with farms in Nebraska and South Dakota. The Pillen Family Farms’ business model has minimal contract partners. As a result, this position will enjoy interacting with Pillen Team Members who are all striving to achieve the same goals. Pillen Family Farms is seeking a Commercial Field Veterinarian. This position will be engaged in herd health monitoring, establishing herd health protocols, and assessing biosecurity principles and processes. This position will require being in the field 80% of the time, with occasional overnight stays.

Position Announcement: DNA Genetics Veterinarian

DNA Genetics is a privately owned and operated genetics business that focuses on the ‘Best Pig’ and the ‘Best People’ for the North American swine industry needs. DNA Genetics is seeking a Field Veterinarian. This position will be engaged in herd health monitoring, establishing herd health protocols, and assessing biosecurity principles and processes. This position will require being in the field 60-80% of the time, with occasional overnight stays.

People on the Move: Dr. Alvaro Aldaz

Dr. Alvaro Aldaz has been appointed by Zoetis (formerly Pfizer Animal Health) as Director Technical Services Swine & Poultry by Zoetis for the Southern Europe countries. He will be based in Madrid, Spain, and will coordinate the technical support teams. Dr. Aldaz started with Pfizer in 1995 in Spain as Director of Swine Technical Services and then Marketing Manager for Swine Products. In 2005 he relocated with his family to the US, and based at Pfizer headquarters held several international swine marketing and business positions supporting Europe, United States, and more recently Canada and Latin America. He received his Degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and more recently his MBA degree. Based in Indiana, she will provide technical support for the growing portfolio of Merck Animal Health swine products to veterinary practices and swine production companies in the Eastern Cornbelt.
